Problem
As AI becomes part of everyday creative work, the challenge for software companies is no longer simply providing access to new tools. Creative teams need a shared operating model for using them effectively without sacrificing quality, consistency, institutional knowledge, or human judgment. Caldera Software needed a practical framework that could turn broad AI adoption into clear day-to-day working practices, giving creatives enough structure to work consistently while preserving the experimentation and autonomy essential to strong creative teams.
Solution
I conceived and developed an Caldera’s AI-Enabled Creative Operations Framework as an operating system for how a modern Creative team works with AI. It establishes Standards of Practice across AI workspaces, LLM collaboration, project organization, generative imagery, the creative process, knowledge preservation, and responsible AI use. Rather than treating AI as an automation layer, the framework reduces operational friction while keeping human judgment responsible for direction, quality, and final decisions.
Results
The result is a practical, scalable system that makes AI part of the Creative team’s everyday operating model. It establishes a shared approach to AI tools while setting clear expectations for collaboration, governance, and review. Together, the framework and article present a broader philosophy of AI-enabled creative operations: AI assists, humans decide.
The framework itself is the creative deliverable. I conceived and developed the operating model, Standards of Practice, workflows, examples, governance guidance, and visual system as an integrated approach to AI-enabled creative operations.
Rather than creating a collection of AI policies or prompting tips, I approached the challenge as a Creative Director: How should a modern Creative team actually work with AI? The framework translates that question into practical guidance for integrating AI across the creative process while preserving human judgment.
The pages below show the complete framework as a working reference for the Creative team. For the best viewing experience, I recommend exploring the original framework in Figma at full-screen size.
