The Challenge

Kingsway Exterminators, working in partnership with the New York City government, faced the challenge of managing large-scale mosquito control efforts across the five boroughs. Their operations required precise mapping and routing to optimize field personnel’s efficiency in addressing mosquito infestations and minimizing the threat of disease transmission. However, their existing systems were inefficient, leading to inaccuracies in routing, wasted time, and underutilized data.

The goal was to create an integrated GIS routing system that could streamline operations, improve accuracy, and enable seamless coordination between administrators and field teams. The system needed to be accessible on mobile, desktop, and cloud platforms, ensuring compatibility and ease of use across all devices.

The Strategy

As Creative Director at DVG, I led the design of Kingsway’s web and mobile applications, overseeing the information architecture and crafting intuitive UX/UI designs. I documented all potential use cases, ensuring the platform addressed the unique challenges of Kingsway’s operations. My design included a sophisticated dashboard that enabled administrators to monitor project statuses in real-time, assign routes, and manage teams for optimal productivity.

The system was designed to integrate seamlessly with Kingsway’s existing hardware and software, ensuring compatibility and scalability. Through detailed wireframes, visual designs, and iterative prototypes, I ensured the applications offered a user-friendly experience for both administrators and field personnel. Open and direct communication with Kingsway stakeholders throughout the project ensured the final product met their specific needs.

The Results

The GIS routing system delivered transformative results for Kingsway’s operations. Route accuracy and data collection improved by 150%, enhancing the effectiveness of fieldwork. Time wasted on creating routes and setting up teams decreased by 65%, streamlining operational workflows. Data value reports post-route analysis increased by 220%, providing administrators with actionable insights to optimize future operations.

This project demonstrated the power of thoughtful design in solving complex logistical challenges. By creating a platform that integrated advanced mapping and routing capabilities with intuitive design, I helped Kingsway achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness in their mission to combat mosquito infestations across New York City.
