The Challenge
Tarte Cosmetics needed a centralized web portal to provide their sales and management teams with real-time, geospatial insights into store performance and product distribution across the United States. Their existing processes for accessing and analyzing sales data were fragmented and time-consuming, hindering their ability to make data-driven decisions. The challenge was to create a GIS-based Sales Operations portal that streamlined access to critical information, optimized product distribution, and aligned with Tarte’s strategic goals.
The solution had to be user-friendly, efficient, and tailored to the unique needs of Tarte’s internal teams, offering an intuitive interface that empowered users to locate stores, analyze data, and enhance operational efficiency
The Strategy
As Creative Director and Project Manager, I led a multidisciplinary team to design and develop the GIS Sales Mapping Portal in collaboration with Esri and Tarte Cosmetics. Using an agile approach, we worked closely with stakeholders to document use cases, develop the information architecture, and refine prototypes. The portal’s design prioritized simplicity and usability, featuring an intuitive interface that allowed users to quickly access and analyze GIS data for their sales operations.
The system included features for locating stores, visualizing sales trends, and managing product distribution, all integrated into a seamless UI. Continuous testing and iteration ensured the portal met the needs of Tarte’s teams while aligning with their broader operational objectives.
The Results
The Sales Operations portal transformed Tarte’s internal processes, delivering measurable benefits within the first quarter of its launch. The intuitive UI improved efficiency, leading to a 10% increase in locating misplaced items and a 20% decrease in time spent gathering GIS data. The streamlined functionality also contributed to a 25% increase in employee morale, as the portal reduced frustration and enhanced productivity.
This project highlighted the value of combining GIS expertise with user-centered design. By creating a solution tailored to Tarte’s needs, I helped empower their teams to make faster, smarter decisions, reinforcing their commitment to operational excellence and strategic growth.
