The Challenge

The United Nations Office of Information and Communication Technology (OICT) needed a cohesive brand identity and website design for their Unite platform, a key resource serving a diverse, global audience. The website needed to cater to varied cultural contexts, offering a user-friendly and accessible experience that could accommodate extensive information while maintaining consistency with the United Nations’ overall brand identity.

The challenge was to create an efficient design that ensured fast access to information, streamlined navigation, and clear communication. Additionally, the branding guidelines had to empower the UN team to maintain uniformity across all digital touchpoints while reducing costs and reinforcing the organization’s mission.

The Strategy

As Creative Director, I led the development of the Unite branding and website design. Collaborating closely with the OICT team, I crafted an information architecture that prioritized accessibility and cross-cultural understanding. During the design phase, I explored two distinct visual themes, ultimately selecting a modern, efficient design that streamlined user navigation and improved access to essential resources on the platform.

Adhering to the United Nations’ brand guidelines, I ensured the final design was consistent in its use of fonts, colors, logos, and messaging. The comprehensive guidelines enabled the UN team to make consistent design decisions, building strong brand recognition while achieving cost savings. This strategic approach not only elevated the Unite platform but also supported the UN’s overarching mission of fostering global cooperation.

The Results

The Unite branding and website design achieved its objectives, providing a seamless user experience that aligned with the United Nations’ values and vision. The efficient design facilitated faster navigation, allowing users to access critical information with ease. The brand guidelines empowered the UN team to maintain a consistent digital presence across platforms, reducing operational complexity and costs.

This project exemplifies the impact of thoughtful design in addressing complex global challenges. By delivering a solution that balances accessibility, efficiency, and cultural sensitivity, I helped the United Nations advance their mission while establishing a recognizable and unified digital identity.
