The Challenge

Planned Parenthood faced a critical need for a secure and comprehensive internal portal to address their security challenges. The organization required a robust web application capable of managing vast amounts of data related to potential threats, such as suspects, organizations, and events, to safeguard their staff and supporters. Their existing systems were fragmented and lacked the efficiency and accuracy needed to handle the complexity of these scenarios.

The challenge was to design a large-scale platform with a user-friendly interface that streamlined data collection, minimized errors, and enhanced incident resolution. It was essential to create a solution that aligned with Planned Parenthood’s mission of safety and support while meeting their high-security standards.

The Strategy

As Creative Director at DVG, I led the design and development of this expansive web application. My approach began with documenting a wide range of potential use cases to inform a robust information architecture. I created detailed wireframes and prototypes, ensuring every workflow was optimized for ease of use and accuracy. These designs were tailored to meet the platform’s unique security requirements while maintaining scalability and functionality.

The visual and UX design emphasized clarity and efficiency, minimizing duplicate entries and streamlining data entry processes. I collaborated closely with Planned Parenthood stakeholders throughout the project, presenting iterative designs and prototypes to ensure alignment with their needs.

The Results

The internal security portal delivered significant results for Planned Parenthood. Incident report accuracy improved by 150% within six months, allowing the organization to respond more effectively to potential threats. Duplicate subject entries decreased by 75%, thanks to an intuitive user experience that streamlined data management. Incident closure and resolution rates increased by 220%, demonstrating the platform’s impact in accelerating and enhancing security operations.
